Prefer another design program? You can also follow along using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft PowerPoint, or any software that allows you to create a custom layout.

Quality Printer

A quality inkjet printer is essential for producing vibrant colors and crisp images. For the best results, print using your printer’s highest-quality settings and make sure your ink cartridges are full before you begin.

💡 HWTK Tip: I almost always print my chip bags as a PDF Print file because it keeps the artwork crisp and helps maintain the correct size. If you’re using Canva Free, a high-resolution PNG works great too.

For the best results, I recommend printing on Party & Confetti Glossy Paper, With a glossy finish and durable 37 lb. weight, this paper produces vibrant colors, crisp images, and a professional-looking finish without being too thin or see-through. It’s also quick-drying and smudge-resistant, making it ideal for printable party favors.

If you don’t have glossy paper, you can also print on regular copy paper or matte presentation paper. While these options work well, the colors won’t appear quite as vibrant as they do on glossy paper.

Paper choice is all about personal preferences. You can also use plain copy paper, or even go with a matte finish paper.

Adjust Your Printer Settings

Before printing, take a moment to check your printer settings. Using the correct settings will help ensure your chip bags print at the proper size with the best possible image quality.

For the best results, use these recommended settings:

•  Paper Type: Select Glossy Photo Paper if you’re using glossy paper. This setting ensures the ink dries properly and prevents smudging.
• Print Quality: Set your quality to “Best” to get crisp, clear images.
• Print at Actual Size: Always print at actual size or 100% scale, as resizing can mess up the proportions and make your template too small or too large.
• Borderless Option: If you don’t want the  white border around your design, select the borderless option in your  print settings.

Important: Avoid using Fit to Page or Scale to Fit, as these settings can change the size of your chip bag and affect how it wraps around the snack bag.

Print a Test Copy

Before printing multiple copies, print one test page first.

Check that:

• The colors are bright and vibrant.
• Text and graphics are sharp and easy to read.
• The design prints at the correct size.
• Everything is centered and aligned properly.

Lay your printed chip bag wrapper face down on a clean, flat surface. Starting with the back of the design facing up makes it easier to fold the wrapper neatly and align the edges before adding any adhesive.

2: Position Your Chip Bag

Place an unopened 1-ounce snack-size chip bag in the center of the wrapper.

Making treat bags instead? No problem! Custom chip bags are also perfect for holding candy, small toys, stickers, crayons, or other party favors.

If you’re creating treat bags, you have two options:

• Place your treats inside a small zip-top bag before inserting them into the wrapper to keep everything together.
• Or, assemble the wrapper first by sealing the side and bottom, then add your treats before sealing the top.

3: Seal the Back

Apply a strip of double-sided tape or a thin line of hot glue along one short edge of the wrapper.

Carefully wrap the paper around the chip bag, overlapping the opposite edge to create a straight back seam. Press firmly to secure the adhesive.

💡 HWTK Tip: Before pressing the adhesive down completely, check that the front design is centered. Taking a few extra seconds to adjust the wrapper can make a big difference in the finished look.

4: Seal the Bottom

Fold the bottom flap upward and secure it with double-sided tape or hot glue.

Press firmly for a few seconds to create a strong seal before moving on.

5: Add Your Treats (If Needed)

6: Seal the Top

Fold the top flap down and secure it with your adhesive, just as you did with the bottom.
